On September 2, JD.com Supermarket and JD.com Consumer and Industrial Development Research Institute released the 2022 gift box consumption trend report. The report shows that the gift boxes that JD.com Supermarket focuses on supporting have become a high-growth category, and the consumption of gift boxes will increase by nearly 50% in 2021. Gift box consumption shows six major trends, including that food and beverage gift boxes have the largest sales volume, accounting for 60%; alcohol gift box sales have increased significantly, with a growth rate of 50%; gift boxes with affordable prices are more popular; Mid-Autumn Festival gift box sales are "shoulder to shoulder" during the Spring Festival; consumers in East China and North China prefer fresh gift boxes. In recent years, JD.com Supermarket has focused on supporting the creation of gift boxes into a high-growth category. According to sales data, from 2019 to 2021, JD.com supermarket gift box consumption maintained rapid growth, with consumption increasing by nearly 50% in 2021. From the perspective of sales growth, alcohol gift boxes ranked first with 50%, followed by mothers and babies, reaching 31%. From the perspective of sales of various gift boxes, food categories accounted for nearly 80% in 2021, of which food and beverages accounted for more than 60%, much higher than fresh, alcohol and other categories. However, the report found that the higher the sales volume, the lower the average price of gift boxes. This shows that gift boxes with affordable prices are more popular with consumers. From the perspective of consumption nodes, in recent years, the sales of Mid-Autumn gift boxes have performed well, almost matching the Spring Festival. Despite this, the report shows that in the peak sales season of JD.com 618 and 11.11, the sales of gift box products are more eye-catching. In terms of regional consumption preferences, Northeast China prefers wine gift boxes, East China and North China prefer fresh gift boxes. And South China prefers to buy food and beverage gift boxes.
